Medium and heavy plates are mainly used in construction engineering, mechanical manufacturing, container manufacturing, shipbuilding, bridge construction, etc.

Medium and thick plates refer to steel plates with a thickness ranging from 4.5 to 25.0 mm, while those with a thickness between 25.0 and 100.0 mm are called thick plates, and those with a thickness exceeding 100.0 mm are extra-thick plates.

To obtain the desired shape of the steel plate, it must undergo permanent deformation. The process adopted can be local or overall bending, deep drawing, tensioning, or a combination of these forming methods.

Hot rolled steel plates and strips are produced from slab (mainly continuous casting billets) as raw materials.

Cold rolling and hot rolling are two different steel rolling techniques. As the names suggest, cold rolling is the process of rolling steel at room temperature, and this type of steel has high hardness. Hot rolling is the process of rolling steel at high temperatures.

By definition, steel ingots or billets are difficult to deform and process at room temperature. They are usually heated to 1100 - 1250℃ for rolling, and this rolling process is called hot rolling.
